DYI Pink Grapefruit Sugar Scrub

Oh the sweet fragrance of pink grapefruit….

Inviting…

Invigorating…

Intoxicating!

This sugar scrub is super simple to make and oh so scrumptious you are going to love it!

It’s a favorite of mine in the morning when I want to gently wake up my senses.  I love to indulge in a gentle exfoliation after a rigorous workout and this sugar scrub is perfect for that. It leaves my skin lusciously silky and my mood delightfully joyful 🙂

Gather your Ingredients

Pink Grapefruit sugar scrub ingredients

Here’s what you’ll need to make this scrumptious sugar scrub:

  • 1 cup fine sugar
  • 1/3 cup almond oil
  • 2 tsp Vitamin E oil or Jojoba oil
  • 15 to 20 drops grapefruit essential oil
  • grated pink grapefruit zest
  • Glass bowl or mason jar for mixing
  • Pretty glass jar for storage

This sugar scrub makes a wonderful gift so you may want to double or quadruple the recipe to treat all those special ladies in your life to a little tender loving care.

If you plan on using this scrub on your face you’ll want to use the finest sugar possible. I like to use organic sugar but you may use any sugar you prefer.

To make the scrub

Place the sugar in a glass mixing bowl or mason jar.  Add the almond oil, Vitamin E or almond oil and the grapefruit essential oil and mix well. Add the dehydrated grapefruit zest and mix again. Pour into a decorative glass jar that seals tightly for storage.

Preparing the Grapefruit Zest

I like to add a little dehydrated grapefruit zest for added fragrance and a touch of color.

To prepare the zest, preheat oven to 200.

Peel one pink grapefruit and place the peel on a baking sheet.

Place in the oven until the grapefruit peel is dry. This usually takes a couple of hours and your house will smell delicious!

Allow the dried peel to cool before grinding it into a powder with a grate.

I love the smell of citrus so I know I would like this scrub. It’s funny, my grandmother used to put lemon on her skin all the time and she had beautiful skin. Thanks for the recipe!

I always keep the skins (peel) of citrus fruits & either let them dry naturally or bake them if I’m doing something else in the oven. They’re great for keeping cats off my vegetable patch! They come in really handy for scenting drawers and for starting the fire in winter!

    • Ooh thanks for these fabulous ways of using them Kate. During the summer when it’s scorching hot here in LA I dry all sorts of things outside. I learned it from my grandma who had peach and apricot trees and always made sun dried fruit leathers. They were the best!

  12. Gosh i didn’t know it was this easy to make and with pure ingredients, unlike shop-bought. Thank you for sharing.

    • I have to be honest Kim, since I’ve discovered how easy and inexpensive it is to make all sorts of skin care products that are truly good for your skin and give complete control over the quality of the ingredients, I have not used any store bought products! My staples are almond oil, coconut oil, jojoba and rose hip oils and a variety of essential oils. My skin never looked or felt better!

  13. This sounds like a great recipe and with the added viamin E and jojoba oil I bet it makes the skin so soft. Thanks for sharing, I think I will try this.

    • Oh it does make your skin feel silky smooth Trish! I generally choose almond oil as my base because it has such a rich texture and is so nourishing on its own but the jojoba and vitamin E add that little boost of goodness that keeps your skin super healthy 🙂
