Jumpstarting My Healthy New Year with a 21 Day Cleanse

JumpstartThe New Year is a time for new beginning right?

Or at least a time for getting back on track after a few weeks of indulgence…

Yes, I’ll admit I’ve indulge in a few more rich and decadent foods, fabulous wines and exquisite champagnes over the past few weeks, but I have absolutely no regrets!  I always say Life is to be Savored and well I have been savoring 🙂

Having said that I can only indulge for so long.  My body tells me it’s time to get back on track with my healthy routines and I’m not one to argue with that.

One of my favorite ways to reset my metabolism and jump back into healthy habits is with a cleanse.  And with the girls back in school I started my cleanse on Monday.  I usually prepare everything myself, taking the time to shop for the freshest organic ingredients I can find and lovingly preparing every juice or meal I consume. But this year I decided to try something new and I am actually having someone else do the prep work for me.  This is a huge step for me as I love having complete control over my ingredients but one of my goals this year is to simplify when I can so… I’m simplifying!

After quite a bit of research I settled on the 21 Day Cleanse from Chef V.  I am compromising slightly because I am getting ready made juices rather than preparing each one just before drinking it as I normally would, as that is the best way to ensure I get the full nutrient benefit, but I am saving so much shopping and prepping time that I am willing to make this small compromise.

I’m also testing this program out to see if it would be a good option for my 14 year old and so far so good.

So what does a 21 day cleanse from Chef V look like and why did I choose this option?

The 21 Day cleanse is actually 15 days of super clean eating with 2 sets of 3 days of actual cleansing. The key ingredient in this regimen is the green drink that you consume throughout the cleanse before each meal.

Everything you need is delivered to your home each Monday of your cleanse, at a time that makes sense for you.

Mine was delivered at 4 am so I had everything I needed when I got up at 5.

Here’s what was in the bag:

  • Green drink
  • Cleanse soup
  • Shaker cup
  • Protein powder
  • Detox tea

The first two days are really a pre-cleanse. This is a necessary step to maximize the benefits of the cleanse and minimize the unpleasant detox symptoms. For me this is the easy part. It’s essentially the way I like to eat with the added green drink before each meal. So I am loving it so far.

The green drink is made with kale, swiss chard, collar greens, lettuce, dandelion greens, parsley and apple (for sweetness). All ingredients are locally grown organic and the juice is made fresh the morning it is delivered.  The ingredients are blended with filtered water to retain all the fiber as well as the many nutrients contained in these wonderful foods.  The juice is a little watery for my taste but I LOVE a rich, dense, GREEN drink that to most is a bit to earthy.  But my daughter was delighted with the drink and is happy to make it a part of her regular diet. So that is a major plus for me.

I am enjoying the green drink and loving the convenience of it being ready made.

Tomorrow I start the first official cleanse day. That means green juice all day, 2 protein drinks and a serving of soup… I follow this regimen for three days then it’s back to what I’ve been doing these past two days.

So I will keep you posted on how the next three days go.

In the meantime stay healthy and scrumptious!

Have you ever done a cleanse before? How did you go about it? What is your “HEALTHY NEW YEAR” Resolution?

  1. This looks really interesting to me. I’ve always wanted to try a cleanse but haven’t been sure what it consisted of. Your post made it not at all scary! Thanks!

    • I’m glad it helped Jeanette 🙂 A cleanse can be a very scary thing, especially if you aren’t properly prepared physically and emotionally. And not all cleanses are created equal so it’s important to do your research and start with a program that suits your lifestyle and your goals. I love that this programs includes actual cleanse days but focus on healthy eating and living habits, since this is the ultimate goal. I think anyone can handle 3 days of full on cleansing, especially when you ease in and out of it.

  2. I have always wanted to try a cleanse. There is something so intriguing about the whole process.

    • I like that you find it intriguing Nina 🙂 It’s one of those things that everyone should try at least once I think. I tend to eat pretty clean, mostly whole foods, organic and locally sources. But I have my weaknesses and indulgences… And let’s face it we are surrounded with toxins everywhere. So I personally like to flush them all out once in a while, reset my metabolism and hormones. I come out of a cleanse rejuvenated and energized. It’s a pretty amazing feeling 🙂

  3. I’ve always been interested in trying one of these types of systems. However, I’m also a bit scared of them at the same time. Thanks for this information.

    • You are most welcome Crystal. I completely understand your hesitation and I think it’s a good thing. Too many people jump on a program without taking the time to research it, check out reviews and testimonials, and call the company with questions. I encourage you to do that. I’m exited about his program and so far I am finding it easy to follow. The drinks are getting kind of addictive in fact 😉 One of the best parts is the constant contact I have with the staff!!! It makes me feel safe and cared for. I can’t wait to share the next step on this journey with you in a few days.

  4. All the ingredients are things I love, but not sure if it is something I can do with colitis and a stoma. I know this is TMI, but does the cleanse work like flushing out your intestines? I need to discuss it with my doctor.

    • You should absolutely discuss this with your doctor Karen as he or she is most familiar with your personal health. Most cleanses flush out toxins from your body, and yes, your intestines. Since the green drinks are blended and not juiced they are rich in fiber, which make them highly effective for a cleanse but most likely not the best option for you. I would get in touch with your doctor and put him or her in touch with ChefV. Their staff is wonderful, quite knowledgeable and super helpful. Hope this helps and I pray this is a year of abundance for you, especially in regards to your health.

  5. I’ve never done a cleanse, but I’m really interested in how it goes for you. I need to do some more research because I had no clue there was a pre-cleanse period.

    • I am a firm believer in doing your research Crystal. There are so many options and programs available that it is important to find the one that is right for you. The pre-cleanse is one of the things I like about this program. It makes so much sense to prep your body and ease into the cleanse. I think it also ensures greater success. If you feel drop dead awful on the first day of a cleanse, chances are you’ll stop right there. I’m exited about the next three days and feel ready mind and body 🙂 I’ll let you know how it goes 🙂

  6. I have not done a cleanse before. I have committment issues (no really lol) so I don’t know that I could make it. It’s why I fail with losing weight every time I say I’m going to.

    • I am sorry to hear that Mandi. The best advice I can give you is to think about why you want to do a cleanse or loose weight. Come up with something really meaningful.. spend more quality time with your kids or hubby, run a 5K, dance at your daughter’s wedding, whatever it is, something that really tugs at your heart. Write that down, make it a pretty card that you post in a special place where it serves as a reminder of what you really are trying to accomplish. Then be good to yourself and take it one day at a time. If you slip, forgive yourself and remind yourself about what’s at stake then pick up from where you left off. Also be realistic. Take baby steps. I have no doubt you can get there. I’m rooting for you!

  7. The last time I did a cleanse was way back when – do you remember the cabbage soup diet? 😉 If I’m feeling the need to detox, I focus on healthy smoothies in the morning, a salad or yogurt for lunch, and then a sensible dinner. Keep us posted!!

    • Oh yes I remember the cabbage diet Denine! I never did it but I have many friends who did. Sounds like you eat sensibly. A detox is great no mater what, at least once in a while. It’s an effective way to flush out toxins we’re exposed to outside of our diet as well as the ones who creep into our food. I will keep you posted on my journey 🙂

  8. Stephanie Keeping says:

This is not a bad idea. I haven’t thought about doing a cleanse, but it might worth the shot.

  9. I just watched Fat, Sick and nearly dead last night on Netflix and it really motivated me to want to start a cleanse. Clean eating is so important as there is so much processed crap out there.

    • That is a pretty scary movie isn’t it Avry? A real eye opener. The scariest part is that it’s all true. Yuk! Great motivator! I applaud you in your commitment to eat clean food. The more of us do that the more likely we are to rid the crap from our food supply no? All the best to you on your healthy eating and healthy living journey 🙂

  10. I have never done a cleanse. This seems to have everything you need though and make it easy to do. Thank you for sharing.

    • This program certainly makes the process as easy as it can be Digna. Not only do you get everything you need for the week delivered fresh to your door. You get tons of support in emails, calls, recipe ideas, articles, testimonials.. So far I am loving this plan.

  11. This actually sounds like something I could do!!! Thanks for this informative post!!!!

  12. I haven’t done a cleanse before but I would love to. I’m currently nursing so I need to keep up my calories, but this seems like a great cleanse for when I’m done!

    • How wonderful that you are nursing Tiff! Those were treasured years for me and such a wonderful way to give your little one a healthy start in life. This would be a great cleanse for you when you’re ready but there is no rush. 😉

  13. I’ve never done a cleanse before but this looks good. I’ll have to check them out.

  14. How long did your results last? Did you gain it back and more? I’ve got several events coming up, and don’t want to have negative effects by events 2, 3, etc…

    • How long your results last Vicky depend entirely on what you do after your cleanse. I generally have healthy eating habits but occasionally get off over indulge in foods that are richer than my normal diet. I use this cleanse to get me back on track and it works beautifully! Let me know if you have any other questions 🙂
