My Family is a BOSUStrong FitFamily!

The following post is sponsored by BOSU through my affiliation with the SweatPink community.

For the last four weeks, the Sweat Pink community teamed up with BOSU to show the
world what it means to be #BOSUStrong. One thing that makes me BOSUStrong is my
family because they inspire me to constantly strive to be my very best. And I hope to inspire them to embrace a healthy and fit lifestyle and always live life with joy and passion!

Cris and I have always shared a love for the outdoors and it has been amazing to share this passion with our girls,  Alexandra, Natasha and Sabrina.  The girls were practically born on skis since Cris and I have served as volunteer ski patrollers for the past 25 years, and they all share our love for that fluffy white stuff. The older two have now picked up snowboarding as well as skiing.

One of our favorite family activities is rock climbing. We relish a weekend get away to the beautiful Joshua Tree, especially this time of year when the weather is sublime!  The girls are always so eager to get on the rock! It makes my heart sing to watch them defy gravity and overcome their fears to make it to the top.  On hot summer days we get out early to set up our ropes at Point Dume in Malibu and enjoy a few climbs before playing in the water or engaging in a family game of beach volleyball.

Throughout the year, we train hard in our respective sports on week days, and take advantage of the weekends to go on a fun and fit adventure together! We hike, climb, ski, bike, kayak or take off on a day long hike and enjoy lots of laughs along the way and gasp at the pristine beauty all around.

I introduced Sabrina to Aerial Fitness about two years ago and love how confident and daring she has become! Her grace and eagerness to try new tricks are nothing short of awe inspiring! Watching how quickly she learns never ceases to amaze me and keeps me motivated to keep learning along with her.

Alexandra is a swimmer and I love to watch her glide effortlessly through the water.  One of the things that has always astounded me with her training is how well she understands the need to rest and not overtrain. Her team mates would always get mad at her when she dropped a lot of time during swim meets though she’d missed a couple of workouts. “I gave my muscles a chance to rebuild,” she would say.

Natasha is my martial artist and I loved watching her power! She competed for several years and went from being a shy eight year old to a  confident 10 year old with such charisma that crowds gathered around her when she performed her forms during competitions.

For my family fitness is a way of life. It’s a fun and rewarding way to spend quality family time together.  And the best part of raising a fit family is knowing that a family that enjoys a fit and healthy lifestyle is a family that sticks together and thrives together!!!

We’ve recently discovered the BOSU® and have fallen in love!  One of our favorite #FitFamily BOSU workout is doing Russian twists while tossing a medicine ball because staying on the BOSU is quite a challenge so we always end up laughing our little hearts out!  (I demonstrate this with my SweatPink sister Christiana Greene in the video below)

I am loving the BOSU® Sport and the BOSU® Sport-Kids DVD because its a great workout for me and my girls and has helped us all with balance and body awareness.

We are so excited to have the opportunity to try the new BOSU Sport, a smaller version of the BOSU Balance Trainer (the Sport is 50 cm while the Balance Trainer is 65 cm) that’s absolutely perfect for kids. Now, the whole family can “BOSU” together!

That’s why we are a #BOSUStrong #FitFamily!

The new BOSU® Sport-Kids DVD encourages kids to have lots of fun while they get fit, strong and flexible! This total body fitness program, created by renowned trainer Brett Klika, targets 6 to 12 year olds and teaches kids that when you exercise your heart, lungs and muscles every day, you can be fit for life. The 60 minute DVD includes five BOSU® workouts, plus warm-up and cool-down, focusing on different components of fitness. Segments can be used individually or linked together for longer workouts. 1. How fun and creative! I think my kids would love the variety and challenge of this program.

  2. What a fun way to work out. My kids would have loved to workout with the kids DVD.

  3. I’ve never heard of BOSU but it sounds like a great way to involve the family. My own family has always enjoyed recreational exercise. We love to hike and spend time outdoors. My husband and I did that with our kids when they were little and now they love to do that on their own.

    • I love that you enjoy recreational fitness as a family Tonya! The BOSU is super fun with the family. Not only because you get an awesome workout but you also always do a lot of laughing!! Staying balanced is hard 🙂

  4. This is so cool – I just love your fitness posts! I tried Aeriel Yoga for the first time this past spring and it was such an amazing challenge to truly trust my body and let go. This looks even more awesome because you can get the whole family involved. I’ll have to see if they have this in NYC!

    • Awesome Allison! Yes aerial yoga and aerial fitness involve a lot of trust and as you say trust in yourself and your body. That’s one of the aspects that I find so rewarding and empowering! I’m sure they have aerial fitness in NYC. If you need help finding a good place let me know. I’m happy to help!

  5. Your fitness posts are inspiring! We enjoy taking family walks and hubby and I work out in the evening together.

  6. It’s been fun finding out which type of physical activities each member of my family enjoys. The kids are all so different! But I’m happy we’re making strides to be a fit family too.

    • I love that Crystal! We have our family activities but the girls have definitely each found their very own and it’s been fun supporting them in whichever activities they have chosen. When it’s the right fit, they do it with such joy and determination, it’s inspiring!

  7. Inspirational. Ineed to get better about my personal physical fitness but my boys all work out regurlary.

    • Thanks Jasmine. Make time for you. It’s the best gift you can give your family! I’ve been regular then not so regular, staying away from the gym and regular workouts from months on end and I am such a happier person when I commit to at least 30 minutes a day of activity. I have more energy, tend to be a lot more productive and in such a better mood! It’s the best therapy in the world!

  8. Been using these in therapy for balance for years. They are an amazing tool and a lot of fun too.

    • Yes the BOSU is amazing and such a great tool for physical therapy Kay! I’m so glad you are enjoying success with it. I find myself challenged when it comes to balance and am loving the constant feedback I get from the BOSU.

  9. What a fun way to stay fit and healthy.

  11. Amber Ludwig says:

So fun!! I love that you all stay fit together!! So important to be a good imfluence and example for your family!! Aerial fitness looks so awesome!!

    • Thanks Amber! I am so grateful that my girls have all embraced a healthy lifestyle! It makes family time super fun. My hubby and I never pushed a certain activity on the girls. We exposed them to everything we love and thankfully, they’ve fallen in love with just about everything as well. My oldest is now in college and she craves staying fit so it putting in place healthy habits of her own, which makes me super proud. Aerial fitness is super fun and so empowering!!

  12. Aerial fitness looks so cool! I would be terrified but my kids would love it!

    • It can be terrifying Ellen, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I remember when I learned my first drop. I was hanging from 1 leg at the top of the silks, about 20 feet in the air, upside down. My teacher was talking me through the drop… ‘wrap this way, now this way….” I felt like I was wrapping and unwrapping and felt super scared. She had to tell me to stop thinking and just do what she was telling me… I did. It was amazing! Safety is my biggest concern when I teach 🙂

  13. Cathy Jarolin says:

First I want to say what a wonderful way to have your children trained to keep themselves fit! By devoting your time and energy for them! The quality time you spend with them will bring a life time full of achievements! I am getting older now, but when I was Young I was very energetic and sports minded. Did well and exceeded in Volley Ball, Basket Ball, Swimming, ice skating and Roller Skating. I won Several School Awards.. Still remember those were some of the Greatest Moments of my life
I will take the opportunity to let my Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren Know about the Bosu Sport-Kids Dvd & the Bosu Sport. Thankyou for the very Inspiring Story!

    • Thanks for all the positive feedback Cathy! Your children and grandchildren are blessed to be raised with such a healthy role model. I am a firm believer that staying healthy and fit is easy when it is a part of every day life and ultimately it is what we all crave. Staying fit means having the energy to accomplish all that we dream of and the clarity of mind and focus to keep learning and growing 🙂

  14. Valerie guerrero says:

    Its inspiring

  15. Pauline Gorczycki says:

IM REALLY NOT TRYING TO LOOSE WEIGHT IM UNDERWEIGHT. BUT DON’T GET ME WRONG IT IS GREAT TO GET A GOOD CARDIO IN.

    • Fitness isn’t about weight loss in my family either Pauline.. Maintaining a healthy weight, sure, but mostly it’s about staying healthy, keeping our immune system strong and living life to the fullest. I’m sorry you are underweight. Is this due to an illness or just the norm for you?

  16. Sandy Weinstein says:

i have wanted one of these, wish they were not so expensive, also was looking for one for my oldest dog to help her with balance for her hind legs. they are good to do at any age, will help with balance issues. liked the idea of doing the situp on them and the ball throw. guess you could do this by yourself as well with a weighted ball.

  17. Athena Emmanouilidis says:

That sounds like a lot of fun! You’ve inspired me to renew my gym membership.I’ve lost a lot of weight and kept it off but I want to lose those last 2 sizes.Getting stronger and building muscle (toning up) will do that for me easily

    • Oh yay Athena!!! I’m so happy you’re inspired by this and wish you all the best to get your goal. You sound pretty motivated and committed to me. Come back and share your success story with me and my readers… You could be the one inspiring someone else to stay on track next time 🙂

  18. Angela A Simmons says:

thanks for the ideas I can use these moves at the gym. i like to switch things up a bit

  19. Michelle Elizondo says:

Seems like a great way to work out.

  20. I wish the gym I workout @ offered this

    • I’m surprised your gym does not have any BOSU balls Rosanne. They may not have a class but they should have a couple in the free weights section. You could ask a personal trainer to show a series of exercises with it.

  21. Making fitness fun for the family is a big plus. If they see you enjoying yourselves when working out they will follow suit most of the time!

    • Amen! Gabby Reece says exactly that Polly and that’s how we’ve always approached fitness with our girls. Even with skiing and other activities my hubby and I love to share with them, if they did not seem interested we never pushed but found something else to do together. Luckily they all took to skiing and rock climbing and we share some special family fit times together 🙂

  22. Like the variety, kids need to change it up. Thanks for the motivation.

  23. Richard Hicks says:

Never heard of it before but looks like a great way for all to stay in shape
