Celebrating My Birthday and Finishing Strong with #1MillionMinutes

Today is my birthday and what an awesome day it is!

I’m forty nine and loving life.

My birthday started early with a special call from my precious 8 year old. She’s in France with mom and dad and they called me a little past midnight to send me off to bed with the sweetest of birthday wishes ever.  Seeing my little one on Skype always stirs up a mix of beautiful emotions.

She is beaming every time I see her and clearly loving her time with her grandparents. Mom and dad are glowing too and grateful to savor one-on-one time with her.  I miss her so much but I am so proud of how courageous and strong she is and I love to see her blossoming day by day in the loving care of my mom and dad.

After a restful night I started my day in quiet communion with God as I do every morning. It’s the best part of my day and puts everything in the right perspective.

I followed with a dozen power runs up a steep hill at the bottom of my driveway and I am ready for an energized and productive day!

At forty nine I feel strong, confident, and beautiful.

I’m excited about today and everyday!

I credit my faith, family and friends for who I am today and I praise God for the outpour of blessings upon my life each and every day.

The past year has challenged me in ways I could never have prepared for yet I am grateful for every minute of it. The challenges I’ve faced have taught me priceless lessons about myself and cemented the bonds that bind our family together.

My commitment to a healthy lifestyle has allowed me to navigate these stormy seas with grace and strength. My daily workouts have been my saving grace, keeping me strong of body, mind and soul.

I cherish my daily walks with my dog …

And aerial fitness keeps me young! I love to soar on silks and trapeze, defying gravity, and pushing my body just a little bit more each time.

Learning new skills keeps my mind engaged and healthy, and teaching has been one of my greatest blessings. I love the joyful smiles on the faces of my students when they master a new trick or push through their fears and perceived limitations.  Bringing the magic of aerial arts to children with disabilities or lifelong illnesses, fills me with awe and gratitude.

And thanks to the #1MillionMinute challenge from my SweatPink community I’ve been rediscovering the joy of working out with a community, mixing things up and challenging my body in new ways every week.

Almost two months ago I embraced the challenge and committed to a pretty rigorous schedule of weekly fitness activities. We’re in the final week now and I’m on track to meet my personal goal of reaching at least 5,000 minutes. Now I’ll be honest, I’ve actually put in a lot more minutes than that but I’ve not been so good about recording every workout. That’s okay. I’ve put in the work and in the end that’s really what matters.

One of our fabulous sponsors for the #1MillionMinutes challenge is prAna, and to celebrate what our amazing community has achieved I’ve been invited to a little MadLib 🙂

Ready for a little fun?  Here we go!

When the 1 million minutes challenge started, I set out to reach 5,000 minutes. [goal minutes of activity]. And I achieved [verb] that goal by climbing [verb] and sweating [verb] my way to 4,125 [# of minutes].  — we’ve got a few days left 😉

The best part of this challenge for me was reconnecting with myself! I probably spent the most time tracking my minutes while I was flying with my aerial fitness students [person]

I was elated [verb] to see so many Sweat Pink’ers joining in on the challenge and breaking a sweat running [type of activity]. Jamie King [person] was one of my favorite people to stalk follow during the challenge because he/she rocks [verb] it!

I’m sad that it’s the last week but also excited that prAna is our sponsor because I’m coveting the Minoo Sweater [item from prAna] and going to hike [verb] my little heart out in hopes to win!

Plus, I’ll need Drea Jacket [item from prAna website] to help me get through my Fall goals which are to get certified as a personal trainer. And now I tag Kristy [person] and Christiana [person] and Shana [person] to join in on the fun!

I’m celebrating my birthday with the ones who rock my world.  My daughters have prepared a feast and packed our picnic basket. We’ll be heading out on a hike just before sunset and cheering the end of this glorious day with a glass of champagne. I am truly blessed!

I remember as a teen dreading “getting old” and forty seemed really old back then.

And yet as I stand on the cusp of the second century of my life I feel vibrantly alive! I breathe in each day with joy and anticipation for whatever lies ahead.  I feel strong, excited, centered.

The future looks brighter than ever!  I’ve started on a new path as I work towards becoming an ACSM certified personal trainer. And as a recently certified travel agent I’m eager to build an exciting travel business with a focus on EcoFit Adventures. Life is to be savored, day by day, with those you love and what better way to celebrate this glorious life than to travel the earth together exploring one exquisite corner after the other!

Life is scrumptious and I am savoring it!
