Fruits Déguisés

FruitsDéguisésThese delicious treats can be found in the finest of patisseries all over France this time of year.  They were always a favorite of mine growing up and my mom, siblings and I had so much fun making dozens and dozens of these for our annual open house.

I now enjoy making these with my girls.  This is a super simple “no-bake” recipe that even young kids can master quickly and the results… simply scrumptious!

I can’t claim authorship for this recipe.  It’s just our home version of an old fashion French favorite.

  • 8 oz Marzipan
  • 1 lb pitted dried dates
  • 1 lb pitted dried prunes
  • 1 lb raw walnut halves
  • other nuts of your choice (pine nuts, pecan halves…)

Dressing up your fruit

Divide your marzipan in 3 or 4 chunks and add food coloring of your choice to 2 or 3 of these.  Mix well.

For dates and prunes, roll a small piece of marzipan into a ball and insert into date or prune. Shape as needed.

For nuts, roll a small piece of marzipan into a ball and squeeze between two halves.  With pine nuts you can roll your ball into the nuts or arrange the pine nuts as you wish around the ball.  This was always a favorite of mom’s.

Arrange your fruits on a platter and you are ready to share with your guests!

This is a great treat to bring to a holiday party.
