Green Smoothies have become a staple food for my family.
I first experienced the power of Green Smoothies more than five years ago. A friend who was staying with me for a few days prepared fresh smoothies, with an abundance of dark leafy greens every morning. I enjoyed a clean and sustained energy that I could never get from tea or coffee.
I quickly decided to adopt this habit for my family, but making a green smoothie from scratch every morning for all five of us proved to be quite a task… and I simply did not have the time for the daily shopping spree required to have ample greens on hand.
That’s when I discovered Greens Powder Supplements. I researched and sampled many until I settled on a few favorites.
On most school mornings, the girls and I enjoy a delicious and satisfying Green Smoothie without my having a giant mess to clean up. The perfect solution when you are short on time but strive to provide a healthy, balanced breakfast for everyone.
Here are a few of our favorite recipes.
Chocolate Peanut butter Cup Green Smoothie
- 1 heaping Tbsp raw peanut or almond butter
- 2 scoops Amazing Grass Chocolate Kidz Superfood
- 8 oz almond milk*
- optional – 1 serving protein powder
* For a even more decadent drink use chocolate almond milk!
Blend all ingredients until smooth and enjoy!
I make all of my nut butters from scratch.
Making your own nut butters is super simple, absolutely delicious and the best way to make sure your ingredients are wholesome and of the best quality. For peanut butter, place 1 lb raw peanuts in a food processor and blend until desired consistency. Voila! If you like a crunchy peanut butter, reserve a handful of peanuts and toss them in when your nut butter is at the consistency you like.
For an added boost of goodness, add 4 tbsp of raw chia seeds. Chia seeds are a “superfood” long enjoyed by the Aztec. They are an excellent source of protein with 3g per Tbsp, Omega 3 fatty acids and fiber.
And if you add them to your smoothie they will swell up like little boba balls adding a fun texture to your drink.
The beauty of home made nut butter is the endless possibilities. Some of my family’s favorites are almond and hazelnut, almond with flaxseed or cashew butter.
- 2 heaping Tbsp raw peanut or almond putter
- 1/2 cup mixed organic frozen berries
- 2 scoops greens powder
- 8oz Almond milk
- optional – 1 serving vanilla protein powder
Blend all ingredients until smooth and enjoy this fabulous smoothie that tastes just like the american favorite sandwich!
Chocolaty Chocolate Green Smoothie
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 cup greek* yogurt – plain or vanilla
- 1 cup chocolate almond milk
- 1/2 cup plain almond milk
- 2 scoops Amazing Grass Chocolate Kidz Superfood
*Greek yogurt is an excellent source of protein providing a whopping 21 grams per 1 cup serving.
Blend all ingredients until well mixed and serve in your child’s favorite cup! Just be careful, you might be tempted to keep it all for you!!
If you want to give this smoothie a little tropical twist, replace the 1/2 cup plain almond milk with coconut milk. Yum!
It’s easy to make a delicious Green Smoothie that even the pickiest of kids will truly enjoy with the right ingredients and a little creativety.
