Parmesan Kale Chips

ParmesanKaleChips

This is a super fun and simple recipe to make with your kids any time you have a craving for a wonderful, crispy treat that tantalizes your taste buds.

I usually double or triple this recipe as these chips go down much too easy!

And the best part?  They are 100% guilt-free!  Loaded with nutrients and low on calories so go ahead and indulge!

Ingredients:

  • 1 bunch Kale, cleaned and dried
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp Fresh grated parmesan
  • fresh ground salt

Preheat oven to 275

Remove stems and tear kale into pieces and toss into salad bowl.  Add olive oil and parmesan.  Sprinkle with fresh ground salt.  Massage oil and spices into kale leaves.  This will bind the parmesan to the leaves. This is a really fun thing to let your kids do.  They just love getting their hands dirty so let them have fun!

Arrange kale leaves onto baking sheet.  Don’t worry if leaves overlap slightly.  They will dry evenly.

Bake at 275 for 20 to 25 minutes, until kale is nice and crisp, tossing around once in a while for even cooking.

Allow to cool and enjoy

Change it up:

Play around with spices. Replace parmesan with curry or chili powder for a spicy treat.

Herbes de Povence give a lovely mediterranean flair.

Fresh ground pepper and sea salt.

Craving sweets?  Massage a little maple syrup or agave syrup with a couple of teaspoons of cinnamon for a treat like no other (no oil needed with this one)

  1. Kale chips are the new hot thing in the health food stores but I have never tried making them. Kale is really good for you though so great idea!

    • I LOVE Kale, no matter how it is prepared Diane and my girls love Kale Chips. They are so expensive though which is why we decided to try to make them ourselves… I have not bought any since 😉

  2. Wow that looks REALLY easy to make!

  3. We tried these ones but didn’t love them. Maybe we need to give them another try!

  4. I am not optimistic about the texture of kale chips, but I admit that I have never tried them. This recipe does sound good though, and I LOVE a guilt-free snack.

    • I generally use black kale Kim, because they have a nicer, firmer texture than the green kale. But you have to watch the cooking closely or you’ll end up with a chip that feels like a thin piece of paper.

  5. I’ve been wanting to try kale but have been scared. These sound wonderful (I have a bit of a weakness for Parmesan). This may be the recipe that turns me around.

    • Yeah! I hope it is Nicole! Play around with different types of Kale to get a texture that you like. Green kale is so light it’s almost like eating air.. which makes it super fun for my girls but some adults like chips with a bit more body. I use black kale for that reason.

  6. I’ve never tried kale chips and it’s because I’m not sure we’d dig the texture. Do they get really crispy or just sort of stiff? These sound really good but I just want to know what the final texture ends up like.

    • How crispy they get Audrey, depends on the type of kale you use and how long you keep them in the oven for. I use black kale which has a slightly rubbery texture when raw and is thicker than green kale. I also check on my chips every now and then to make sure I don’t over cook them> No matter what these chips will have a lot less body than a potato chip — they can even be “airy” – that’s what makes them fun for my girls. I hope you give them a try and let me know if they work out for you 🙂

  7. Oh, my god. YUMMMM!!

  8. This recipe looks great! I tried making kale chips once… and over cooked and under seasoned them. They tasted like fallen fall leaves. Crunchy leaves. LOL. BUT I have tasted kale chips that my friends have made that were YUMMY! I will have to try your recipe out!

    • I’ve done that before Rachel. As you know, oven temperatures so keep checking on your chips every now and then and you should be fine. I hope you love these as much as we do. They disappear as soon as they have cooled enough to be eaten.

  9. I haven’t tried them with Parmesan! This sounds really good. I bet my daughter would love it.

  10. I have tried Kale chips and I just can’t get into them! I might have to give your recipe a try!

    • Kale chips do have a unique texture and taste Sara, and as much as I love them I have friends who don’t care for them whatsoever. I do hope you’ll give them another try and that you’ll have a positive experience with these. If you want a chip with a little more consistency start with black kale. And if you’re still not too keen on kale chips try this recipe with slices of zucchini instead. Those are quite yummy!

  11. I’ve tried this before!! They are super yummy. Glad to read the tip about the black kale being crispier

  12. I keep hearing about these and I so want to try them. I’m really, really curious and I love the Parmesan on them.

  13. I don’t care for kale but my brother loves it. I bet he’d love to visit and find me serving these!

  14. I love Kale Chips. I think Kale gets a bad wrap but if you season it right it tastes amazing.

  15. We love kale. Will have to try this recipe. This sounds interesting.

  16. I really love kale chips. I’ll have to try this with the parmesan!

  17. I have never ate Kale, but if I were to try it, this looks like the way to go to do it.

  18. I’ve never had Kale either, but this sounds so good! I love parmesan!

  19. Jessica Urgelles says:

I pinned this so I can find later!

  20. Misia Denéa says:

this looks yummy…ill try this soon in my kitchen

  21. Maria Montero says:
